LO2 - Investigate technologies for multi-platform radio broadcasting.

There is a lot of important equipment that is key to a radio broadcast, with each component being essential in the broadcast of data in the form of radio waves or digital code transitions . Branching from this, the first piece of equipment I will be looking into is a transmitter, which is a key component to any radio broadcast regardless of the type of radio, this is because it will take the signal and encode it for distribution. When distributed it transmits the signals as waves which are to be picked up and translated by a receiver. There are different types of transmitters, typically large FM transmitters are utilised by full power radio stations, and there are medium or even low power FM transmitters that are utilised by LPFM radio stations. Then there is the receiver which was briefly mentioned in the previous paragraph, as stated a receiver is what picks up the encoded signals distributed from  a transmitter, it's job being to be able to translate the encoded transmissions in...

LO3 - Legal and Ethical Considerations

In this report I will be discussing the regulatory bodies that i will need to consider when making my radio show and the legal and ethical considerations that follow with making the show. Examples of these being, copyright, harassment, offence to an ethnic minority or fake news.  Firstly I will be looking at the major regulatory bodies involved with the radio industry, those being Ofcom and the ASA. Ofcom is the main regulatory body for broadcasting, telecommunications and postal industries within the UK, they are the main regulator for radio broadcasting companies and are known for monitoring the listenership of radio stations and shows, and they monitor what is allowed and isn't allowed to be said on a radio broadcast. They also look into the details on consumers such as their interests within relative markets for example fashion, sports or technology, and looks into what has the most competition. They also regulate the licensing for a radio channel, restricting them by only allo...

LO2 P3 - Multiplatform Distribution Methods

fm / am / dab There are 3 different radio frequencies, FM, AM and DAB. AM or Amplitude Modulation is the oldest form of radio being invented in the 1870's, it is of lower quality than FM radio however is cheaper and can be transmitted over longer distances. It also has a lower bandwidth which means that it can have more radio stations available in any frequency ranges. FM or Frequency Modulation is the more commonly known and used radio, it is of higher quality than AM radio as it less prone to interference however is impacted by physical barriers. However, it also has a higher bandwidth than AM meaning the sound quality is much better. DAB stands for Digital Audio Broadcasting  is where instead of transmitting sound frequencies, it sends binary signals that can be translated into sound to be listened to. It is of a higher quality in comparison to FM radio. Mostly people access these types of radio from their cars while driving or some still use traditional radios. You can al...
