LO1 - To Know the Structure of a Radio Program
For this i will be listening to a Saturday night Kiss Fresh show with Ben Malone from the 20th April 2019, this show ran between 7pm and 9pm. This show was mostly composed of music as this matched the theme of an evening show as people would want to relax more than be engaged with the presenters and their conversations, this is evidenced by how long the presenter actually speaks for as Ben Malone only really talks at roughly 15 minute intervals and only speaks for roughly 30 seconds. When he does this he speaks in an upbeat manner still as it matches the genre of music and appeals to the younger target audience, however he speaks for less time as people wont be as interested in longer conversations later in the evening as come people may be listening in the car and may just want to relax to some music, even the intro is quite short as he simply greets his audience, talks about how there is going to be some good songs and states about some new singles released in order to peak the audiences interest, this is almost done twice however, a small one at the start then one at half way to perhaps interact with the audience that joined within the first half of the show to make them feel included.
In terms of content, even though it was comprised of mostly music, there was quite a lot of information passed through as for example there was small cuts to news and information about the important updates in the world and they notified audience of the time. I think this is to make the audience feel valued as by still taking small sections of time in the show to give updates shows how the radio station wants to keep their audience informed and up to date as well as entertained. Moroever, as to be expected from a commercial company, there are advertisements throughout the course of the show, usually every half hour roughly 2 minutes are dedicated to adverts, for example we saw some for Linkedin and Direct line towards the end of the show which would appeal more towards 20-25 year olds as im sure they would be familiar with these services.
The show ends with the presenter saying goodnight to its audience, this is done in a very casual manner as this station targets younger audiences and he informs the audience of when he will next be presenting and of shows coming up soon as this is a quick way to promote their content to their audiences, as Kiss is a commercial conglomerate, it aims to make money from its audience listening to it's shows so will want to promote them as much as possible.
Branching from the company promoting it's shows, it also promotes it's brand through it's jingles, these are played quite often during the runtime of the show and ultimately was what ended the show, they were roughly 30 seconds and were quite repetitive and catchy, taking sound effects from snippets of interviews and shows and they are layered and remixed into the jingle. It would repeat how the station was about Throwbacks which highlights the unique selling point of this show as compared to other shows it offers a different type of content and is targeted towards a different audience, therefor it is important that they have a catchy jingle that sells their service.
